Defining wisdom
The definition of wise is ‘having the power of discerning and judging properly; as to what is true or right.’
In Proverbs 1:2-3 it says
‘To know wisdom and instruction, to perceive the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity;’
Where do we find wisdom
We find wisdom throughout God’s word, the bible.
‘For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding;’
PROVERBS 2:6
If you want to learn more about wisdom the book of Proverbs is a great place to begin, it is a book that contains many truths and words of wisdom with guidance for every situation in our lives; from Solomon and other wise men of God.
In life, we are constantly having to make decisions, some are big and some are small. Any decision we make is going to have an impact on our lives whether it be negative or positive. Renewing our mind by reading the wisdom of God, so that we can be fruitful in our walk as Christians, is something we should aim to do daily.
W.I.S.E – Waiting Is Satan’s Enemy
Debbie shared a God-inspired word on Instagram a few weeks ago; where she spoke about the word wise and used the acronym- Waiting Is Satan’s Enemy. When we wait, we are delaying action. By seeking wisdom and delaying action we are preventing ourselves from going off course and unknowingly allowing Satan to step in and cause trouble in our lives. Doing this allows God to lead us in the right direction and make wise decisions in the future.
We all know the saying 'wisdom waits' and there is much truth in that statement.
God wants us to continually seek Him in our decision making. Trusting in Him and leaning not on our understanding [Proverbs 3:5-6], but choosing to be led by God and actively following His guidance and having patience is an important part of this process. When we allow God to give us His wisdom, we enable Him to open doors that otherwise would remain closed.
Proverbs 8:35 says that
‘whoever finds wisdom finds life and obtains favour from the Lord’.
Wisdom brings us happiness, strength, knowledge and understanding. Growing in wisdom requires patience, time and study.
‘But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete lacking nothing.’
JAMES 1:4
James 1:5 goes on to say
‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.’
We know that when we pray we may not get an answer straight away, this can be a struggle for our flesh but God will always give us the answers we need. Studying the word of God and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit is incredibly important and requires patience. This is when we wait on God. We probably won’t hear an audible voice, but it is more likely to be an unction, urge in your spirit or someone may be led to encourage you by giving you a word that lines up with what your spirit and what God’s word says.
Do not make decisions in haste, these often turn out unpleasant, so be diligent because prevention is better than cure!
Ask God for wisdom
In Jeremiah 29:11 we see that God knows our beginning, middle and end. He has pathed the way for our lives. Surely it makes sense for us to seek God before making decisions whether they are big or small to gain a better understanding of what we should do and allow Him to lead us so that we can have peace in the decisions we make. The fruits that we see from seeking God and His wisdom are far greater than the fruits that we see when we do not seek Gods wisdom.
‘But wisdom is justified by all her children.’
LUKE 7:35
The wisdom of God does not lack in any way, it may not make much sense to us, but the results of being diligent in following Gods wisdom outweigh the immediate gratification that we get when we are impulsive.
So, choose to be wise, because Waiting Is Satan’s Enemy.
God Bless!
