As always in true Pastor Martin Phelps fashion, we are blessed with multiple faceted messages this week. There is something in here for everyone and it is truly a word in season.
This is part of the Four Pillars of the Church Series, and we are in pillar two which is Faith. However, Pastor was led to say some things that God wanted him to say and the title of the sermon changed to the above title.
In this blog, we want to summarise the sermon to give you an opportunity to read through and further soak in what was said to really meditate on.
Don’t look back, ever.
Lot's wife looked back and became a pillar of salt. The Old Testament is a type and shadow of the New Testament and what we take from the nature of the Old Testament we can apply spiritually in the New Testament. We may not literally become a pillar of salt but metaphorically, looking back can hinder our progress in moving forward.
The Bible says forget about the former things, do not look back, even though you’re extremely tempted to look back; when you look back suddenly all your problems fill your mind and begin to appear in your everyday life.
Of course, you can look back at happy things but don’t look back at all the negative things in your life, those things that have caused confusion and frustration, those things that have upset you, those things that meandered you down a path that has taken you off course. They're no use to you. Just look back on course to where you are now and where you are going, not where you’ve been.
Remember these words:
Don’t look back at your origination, look forward to your destination.
Meditate on this. Spend time thinking about it. Your origination is what happened in your life gone by, whatever situations and past experiences that make up who you are now but don’t look back at it. Instead, look forward to your destination.
In Galatians 4:10, God says not to observe time and months and years. Don’t always say this will happen in such a time, in such a year, or on such a day. Also, don’t assume that because things happened at certain times or certain days that it means something. God operates in another dimension, He doesn’t operate in days and months and years. We place more value on some days than others and consider them to be special but these are just numbers and mean nothing to God. By observing dates and times as significant we can get into divination, superstition, or foretelling. However, it’s important to trust God with times and not try to predict when He will do things but trust that He will do it in His perfect timing. In the New Testament, we do not operate in natural ways. Every day is a good day for you. Work with God and believe God, and in His perfect time, which may be a mystery to you right now but in His time He will do it. Look forward to what is fresh.
God wants to give us a refreshing.
Acts 3:19 says this:
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
He wants to refresh our lives. Times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. God’s presence is here right now. His presence is upon His Word, not just when you’re praying for someone or in a meeting.
So put up your hands and say to God, ‘God, I want a time of refreshing, God refresh me!’
We all need a refreshing all the time. As you listen to His Word a refreshing will come to you like a refreshing drink of water after a long run. You will feel stronger and more powerful than ever before, His might will be upon you, you will feel like you want to get closer to God. God wants you to get a new fire in you. He wants you to be refreshed in His presence. He wants His presence to carry you through. Many have been run down but don’t look back, only look forward. Remove yourself from any situation or person that makes you look back. Put it all to one side and just look forward. No matter what the situation, whether you’re waiting for a healing or something else to come to pass in your life.
Say to yourself that you will be healed. It doesn’t matter what has happened until now, from here on out you will be healed. It will work out. Absolute light eliminates absolute darkness around me. No matter what is going on God will change it! No matter how we ‘feel’. Greater is He that is in us than he that’s in the world. God does not operate in the world. He is like ether wind. You can feel the wind but you cannot see it. Don’t let your feelings lie to you. Your feelings are your biggest enemy. Don’t let the feelings get a hold of the spirit man.
God wants to remind us that the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
We are the just. We have been justified through Jesus. We are righteous through Jesus. All the billions of dollars are laid up for you. The wealth of the world is laid up for believers, people that serve God. We need to start seeing the wealth coming into our hands. We need to claim it.
Who is the god of sinners? Satan. We need to command Satan in the name of Jesus Christ to release the wealth that is in the world to our hands.
We need to say: ‘I command massive wealth to come into my hands’.
We also need to not see ourselves as lower than the successful people around us. We need to start to see ourselves in a position of success and great wealth. It may seem slow as God tests us to see what we will do with the increase but as we obey Him He will gradually increase our blessings more and more.
Don’t allow the devil to tell you you do not deserve it. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, if God needs to create it for you, He will.
Ecclesiastes 2:26 says this:
For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.
God gives to the good man/woman. We are made righteous through Jesus and as we seek His will and are faithful, God will give us wisdom and knowledge and joy. But to the sinner travail and the responsibility of gathering and heaping up for the just.
